TULSA, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved an ambitious plan in Tulsa today to incrementally increase enrollment in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in the OU College of Medicine at OU Health Sciences by more than 40% over the next five years – a strategic initiative designed to address the critical demand for additional health care professionals in Oklahoma.

The 2025 Summer Immersion Program is a full day program designed for prospective students to learn from and engage with numerous members of The University of Oklahoma Health. The goal is to expose participants to the 70+ programs available, while equipping students with the tools to be successful in the application process. It will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 8 AM - 5 PM. All applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary educational program and/or 18 years or older to attend. Participants in the 2025 Summer Immersion Program can expect the following outcomes:
By attending SIP, participants will be able to describe action steps needed to pursue a career in the health sciences, given the chance to explore all 70+ educational opportunities in depth, and identify best practices for resume building and interview skills. Students will participate in presentations from the seven academic colleges and will have the opportunity to engage in medical simulations like child birth, surgery, and medical imaging.

Applications will be reviewed by OU Health's Recruitment & Admissions and accepted participants will know by Friday, July 18, 2025. Preference will be given to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in college. There is limited availability for this program. The Summer Immersion Program will be hosted on The University of Oklahoma Health campus in Oklahoma City. Registrants will be responsible for their transportation to and from campus that day.
